This project tackles the issue of how to make it easier for Visually Impaired (VI) people get more acclimated to new environments. There are many issues with VI people exploring a new areas. We want to use Virtual Reality (VR) to simulate real world environment and allow users to explore them for as long as they want, wherever they want. This means that we want users to be able to explore from the comfort of their home. In order for this to work, we first need to test how viable this is. We created controls that allows VI users to move around without having to take any physical steps. We conducted this experiment with 6 blind users. From the results, we discovered that users had a hard time adjusting to the controls. Post-experiment interview questions highlight the reasons, such as difficulties using the controls, too many controls to remember, and the disconnect between physically walking and walking with a controller.
